How La Quiniela works
La Quiniela is run by Spain's state lottery operator. Each coupon lists 15 matches, mostly from LaLiga and the Segunda División. For the first 14 you mark 1 (home win), X (draw) or 2 (away win). The 15th is the Pleno al 15: instead of a result, you predict how many goals each team scores, choosing 0, 1, 2 or M (three or more).
Each bet costs €0.75 and a coupon needs at least two bets, so the cheapest entry is €1.50. Over half of everything staked, 55%, goes back as prizes, divided into categories:
| Category | You need |
|---|---|
| Pleno al 15 | All 14 results and the exact Pleno al 15 |
| 1st (Primera) | 14 correct |
| 2nd (Segunda) | 13 correct |
| 3rd (Tercera) | 12 correct |
| 4th (Cuarta) | 11 correct |
| 5th (Quinta) | 10 correct |
Prizes in each category are shared between its winners, so the payout swings a lot with how predictable the round was. In one round in May 2026, 14 coupons won the Pleno al 15 at about €46,700 each, while 12 correct paid under €6.
The Pleno al 15
The Pleno al 15 has 16 possible answers (four goal options for each team), so even someone who knows nothing has a 1 in 16 chance. It only counts if you also get all 14 results right, which is why it pays the top prize.
Your real chances
Jackpot games are chosen to be close, so even good picks miss often. The table works out your chances exactly for different levels of skill. Read across the 50% row: that's someone whose every pick is a coin flip between the two likeliest results, which is already better than most players.
| Your picks are right… | All 14 right | 10+ right (any prize) |
|---|---|---|
| A blind guess (33%) | 1 in 4,782,969 | 0.40% (1 in 248) |
| 40% per pick | 1 in 372,529 | 1.75% (1 in 57) |
| 50% per pick | 1 in 16,384 | 8.98% (1 in 11) |
| 55% per pick | 1 in 4,314 | 16.7% (1 in 6.0) |
| 60% per pick (very strong) | 1 in 1,276 | 27.9% (1 in 3.6) |
The chance of each prize tier
The chance of finishing on exactly each number of correct picks. Most of the realistic money is in the lower tiers, which is why the bonuses matter more than the headline prize.
| Correct | At 50% per pick | At 60% per pick |
|---|---|---|
| 14 of 14 (jackpot) | 0.0061% | 0.078% |
| 13 of 14 | 0.085% | 0.73% |
| 12 of 14 | 0.56% | 3.17% |
| 11 of 14 | 2.22% | 8.45% |
| 10 of 14 | 6.11% | 15.5% |
What doubles and triples cost
Every double doubles the number of lines and every triple triples it. Here is what each ticket costs at €0.75 a line, and how much it improves your chance.
| Ticket | Lines | Cost | Chance of all 14 right |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singles only | 1 | €0.75 | 1 in 16,384 |
| 1 double | 2 | €1.50 | 1 in 10,240 |
| 2 doubles | 4 | €3.00 | 1 in 6,400 |
| 3 doubles | 8 | €6.00 | 1 in 4,000 |
| 5 doubles | 32 | €24.00 | 1 in 1,562 |
| 7 doubles | 128 | €96.00 | 1 in 610 |
| 10 doubles | 1,024 | €768.00 | 1 in 149 |
| 1 triple | 3 | €2.25 | 1 in 8,192 |
| 3 triples | 27 | €20.25 | 1 in 2,048 |
| 2 doubles + 1 triple | 12 | €9.00 | 1 in 3,200 |
| 3 doubles + 2 triples | 72 | €54.00 | 1 in 1,000 |
Chances in this table assume each single is right 50% of the time and each double 80%. Work out your own ticket with the jackpot calculator.
How to approach La Quiniela
Know that the low categories pay little. With hundreds of thousands of coupons, 10 or 11 correct often returns less than the stake. The money is in 13, 14 and the Pleno.
Use doubles and triples on LaLiga's tight games. Spanish football produces plenty of draws, especially in the Segunda División. Covering X on evenly matched games is often worth more than a double on a favourite.
Reduced systems (reducidas) cut the cost. Instead of every combination of your doubles and triples, a reduced bet plays a smaller set that still guarantees a lower category if your covered results come in. It costs less in exchange for a lower guaranteed category.
Check each match before you fill the coupon. Our predictions show home, draw and away chances for every LaLiga game we cover.
Rules worth knowing
- Results count at the end of normal time. Extra time doesn't change the result.
- At least two bets per coupon, up to eight on one coupon; the Pleno al 15 is marked once per coupon.
- Elige8 is an optional add-on in which you choose eight of the 14 matches for a separate prize.
- Postponed matches are settled under the operator's rules. Check them before you play.
- Tax. Spain taxes lottery prizes above an exempt amount, deducted at source. Check the current threshold.
