How to read our football predictions: guides article cover

Every match on TodaysPrediction shows the same few numbers. Once you know what each one means, you can scan a whole day of fixtures in a minute.

The three percentages: 1, X and 2

1 is the chance of a home win, X a draw and 2 an away win. The three always add up to 100%. A line that reads 55 · 25 · 20 means our model expects the home side to win a little more than half the time.

The tip

The green pill is our tip. When one result is at 55% or higher, the tip is that result. When no single result is that strong, we give a double chance tip instead, such as 1X (home win or draw), because covering two results is the more honest call.

Confidence is not certainty

A tip at 70% should land about seven times in ten. It should also lose about three times in ten. That is not the model failing; it is what a 70% chance means. Judge predictions over many matches, never one.

Predicted score, over 2.5 and BTTS

  • Predicted score is the single most likely final score. It is useful for reading how the game should go, but exact scores are hard to hit.
  • O2.5 is the chance of three or more goals in the match.
  • BTTS is the chance that both teams score at least once.

Checking our record

After full time every tip is marked ✓ or ✗, and the accuracy page keeps a running record by market and league. If a market is not working for you, the numbers there will show it.
